Paris: Mixing The New Album

B.l.o.g.

Boom boom boom, ratta-ta-tatta-tatta-tatta, boom boom, clack-clack-crah-crack.
That is the sound of the studio here in Paris. Darius’s and Danny’s heads are bobbing up and down. Jerome’s mouse finger is twitching and clicking like a little computer cricket obsessed with the sound of it’s own momentum. Idle equipment buzzes in the background. The leather couch bends and crinkles from underneath my bones. The sound of strings soar through my ears now, completely dissolving any memory of the bars and beats before from which I described just a few sentences ago. Trembling, soothing, coating the air with such a comforting and adept ease that, like an old friend, the sound of this orchestra never seems to wear its welcome out. But now the distortion’s back and it fuzzes over everything else and takes me somewhere else, too. Indeed, I’m fading now, eyes rolling gently aside underneath their lids. Possibilities are crossing and unwinding in my mind and I’m miles away from anything outside or in front of me. Here we are, Jerome and the boys, all of us in the studio, proclaiming and indulging in what we’ve all made together.

Paris is scorching hot today. The studio is a bit sleepy and it is difficult to look out of the window and see blue sky and little puffy clouds and not be tempted to get on a TGV down to the South of France and stay there for the remaining spring and summer months. We are editing these next few days. The actual mixing will commence forthrightly so within the next twenty-four hours. What can I say? It is an exciting time. Life is fucked up, beautiful and strange. The album most assuredly reflects this so. But now, being in Paris, we are here to finish what we have begun, to continue what Danny and Darius started over a decade ago and to place the parts, their levels and their stories into their proper and most complementarily distinctive and tasteful places. Things are making sense now. We intend to keep it that way straight through and until the end.

Oh God it's horrible to know that you and the band are at the present time in Paris and that we can't see you...

Good luck for your recording, I'm sure it would be great as usual!

Love from Cergy (remember...where you played last year in the Furia Sound Festival)
